Jews, Hamas, Missiles, Human Shields

Okay, I figure it’s high time I put in my two cents worth on the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

In 1948 Israel announced its independence. The United Nations voted to divide British Palestine between the Arabs and the Jews.

The very next the Arab countries neighbouring Israel mobilised their forces and attacked the tiny state. Much to everyone’s surprise the Israelis won.

Now let’s jump two decades. In 1967, Egypt was amassing its forces on the Israeli border. Other Arab states did likewise. Israel preempted the Egyptians and fired first.

When the dust had settled Israel had won the Gaza Strip and the Sinai peninsula from Egypt and the West Bank of the Jordan River from Jordan.

We’ll skip another decade at this point. Israel and Egypt enter a peace agreement. As part of this agreement Israel gave the Sinai peninsula to Egypt.

We should pause here and examine this a little.

Yes, the Sinai peninsula had belonged to Egypt to begin with. No argument here. But look at how Israel came to take possession:

The Sinai peninsula was an Israeli spoil of war and they had every right to claim ownership of it. Had Israel been the aggressor, as was Nazi Germany in Europe for example, then their ownership of the land would not be righteous. But Israel had been peaceable. Egypt was the aggressor and they subsequently lost the land.

The same goes for the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

In order to establish peace Israel returned this land which was rightfully theirs, to Egypt.

In a nutshell there is nothing Israel can do to establish peace. I heard Dennis Prager speaking on this issue and he expressed the point far better than I can.

“Imagine if you will, two scenarios: in the first, Israel lays down its arms and says, ‘We won’t fight anymore.’
In the second scenario, Palestine lays down its arm and says, ‘We won’t fight anymore.’

“What would be the result? In the first instance there would be an immediate overrunning of the Jewish state. Mass murder and exile. Destruction of the Jewish people.

“In the second scenario, there would be peace.”

It is really hard to argue with that. As Prager puts it, “One side wants the other side dead.”

This isn’t about land rights: Israel occupies .3% of the Middle East. Yes, that is on third of one percent. The 22 Arab States occupy the rest. Israel welcome Muslims in its universities, it’s workplace, and yes, even in its army!

It can hardly be said that Israel is not willing to share its .3%.

But look at all those missiles Israel is shooting into Palestine. Those horrible Jews, targeting children and women, innocents. The death toll is astronomically in Israel’s favour.

One of the reasons for the high death toll in Palestine is because Hamas fire at Israel from schools and other populated civilian areas. Then they cry foul when civilians get caught in the bombings.

Did you know that Israel issues a warning when it is sending a missile into Palestine? What sort of military does that? I’ll tell you; a military that does not want to cause civilian casualties.

Israel’s relatively low death toll is due in part to their missile defence system called Iron Dome. This intercepts missiles and artillery shells before they reach their target.

Don’t be deceived. If Palestine could kill a thousand, a million Israelis, they would.

Now, most of what I’ve written so far is common knowledge. Or if not common it’s very easy knowledge to come by. So this begs the question; Why then do the majority believe that Israel is the aggressor and that Palestine is the poor, pooped upon neighbour?

Bad, biased reporting is partly to blame. Israel’s military actions are far more effective than those of Palestine. This is a cold fact. Palestine is throwing stones at a neighbour with bigger guns. This results in carnage and the media love carnage.

Just look at these poor people bullied by their nasty neighbour.

The news media loves to cheer for the underdog. Now if it was the United States giving Palestine a thrashing we would hear on the news how the US armed forces are routing the terrorists from their hiding places. . . . Oops! I seem to think they did that in Afghanistan.

The sole problem is that Israel is defending itself, very capably. The aggressor is getting battered and bruised and the world doesn’t like to see it.

It isn’t typical. Normally the aggressor picks on a target that they can easily overwhelm. Then what happens is the world falls out in sympathy for the party attacked. But that isn’t the case here. What you have is an aggressor, HAMAS, attacking a country that can take care of itself very well thank you.

We come back to the statement by Dennis Prager: If HAMAS would lay down their arms, there would be peace the next day.

Israel have not preempted Palestine. What the media isn’t telling you is that the Israeli attacks have all been defensive, in response to attacks from Palestine.

It all started with the murder of three Israeli students on June 10. Things are unclear whether the culprits were HAMAS or a group acting on their own.

There was no need for these students to die. Their only crime was that they were Jewish.

Israel responded with a limited bombing campaign against HAMAS targets and Palestinian militant groups fired rockets into Israel.

Can we blame Israel for wanting to avenge the murder of its citizens?

America went to war over the murder of its citizens on 9/11.

Atheist – Smile

As a Christian internet user who visits the occasional public forum, watches videos on Utube and contributes to the comments section, I encounter a lot of people who don’t share my spiritual views. This is to be expected but it hasn’t always been the case. It wasn’t so long ago that I wouldn’t have heard from these folk unless I was actively evangelising.

Put it this way. The internet has not only given Christians a new platform from which to spread the word, it has also given voice to a generation of people who might previously have kept quiet.
Naturally there will be objection from some quarters if you are street preaching – the hecklers will always speak up – or one-on-one witnessing. But those who would normally keep their thoughts to themselves now have an anonymous megaphone.

At certain times this can ignite lively and thought provoking conversation. This is the public forum at its best. At other times I have found myself the object of ridicule by mean spirited people with virtually zero knowledge of the scriptures they are rubbishing.

A favourite topic of these folk is the supposed contradictions in the scriptures. A popular one is the account of Judas Iscariot:
Matthew 27:5 tells us that Judas threw the money into the Temple and went off and hanged himself.

Acts 1:18 says he bought a field with the money. There, he fell headlong and burst open, his intestines spilling out.

Theologians have written tomes about these two accounts. They have been studied for years, pulled apart and dissected. Men and women with advanced degrees, people that for whom if they had studied medicine for instance, would be specialists.

Now some tosser with no understanding of scripture whatsoever wants to establish an understanding that the Bible is fake based on his or her great find. Whoopi-doo. These are the same folk who cling to the premise that the great singularity –

er, gotta pause here . . .

Don’t you love that word, ‘Singularity, What it means is “I don’t have an explanation or sound reasoning for my theory, any reasonable application of the English language would fail like army boots with a wedding dress.” Here’s a trick, let’s make a new word.”‘

– you know, when nothing spun around really really fast until finally, with a great big bang, gave us the universe and everything in it! We shall call this momentous event, a Singularity.

Now I expect mocking and a guffaw or two over that one. That’s the wrong application of the word. I’m an idiot who doesn’t understand the subject. Well here’s one that effectively shuts all the nuclear traps:

Creation, therefore, Creator.

Now, let’s go back to the smelly old corpse of Judas Iscariot.

Any two Newspapers, from the same town, with reporters at the same event, witnessing the same thing, and then aided by sophisticated computer editing software, digital cameras and professional photographers, will give different accounts.

Two cars crash, a Ford and a Toyota. Three people are injured, one seriously.

That very night three newspapers, two TV networks and a radio station report the story. Interestingly enough, there are some variations in the story. One reporter said there would be a recall on one of the vehicles because of a possible fault in the brakes. The other media sources didn’t even mention this although it is the single item that could send a relatively small story into a front page scoop. Then it turned out that the recall vehicle wasn’t involved in the crash.

What is the story? Two cars crashed, three people were injured, one of those seriously. That is the nitty gritty of the tale.

Jesus was betrayed by Judas. He was subsequently crucified to death, now if that’s not enough, sealed in an airless tomb for three days, then he rose from the dead.

In the meantime, Judas, feeling guilty, or terrified because he had indeed had a hand in murdering the Son of God, topped himself.

That’s the story. It’s all there.

Another favourite of the savvy biblical illiterate is to quote the non biblical as if it were.

“God helps those who help themselves.”

Really? Where did you dig that up? It isn’t in the Bible. As a matter of fact the Bible is full of, and most Christians can attest to, incidences when God helps the helpless. In fact if people want to live their lives helping themselves, without God, He frequently leaves them to it.

Or my personal favourite: “The problem with you Christians is you go on and on claiming yours is the only way.”

You really can tell who has done their homework: Islam claims the same – except its practitioners will kill you if you don’t believe. All the world’s major religions claim to be the sole path to salvation. (With the exception, of course, of those who don’t believe salvation is necessary, and yet these too, believe they have the only way).

The Bahá’í believe that all the major religions come from the same place as long as it is Bahá’í.

The internet has opened this doorway. Loaded with good and bad information the internet confirms and validates every opinion. This is the post modern mind. Everyone is right.

Except Christians it seems.

In a matter of seconds a person can have at their hands the fruits of what only a short time ago required hours of exhaustive research. You get the answer but not the education.

The internet is the University of Bits n’ Pieces.

We really need to watch it, folks. They’re coming at us dumber and louder.

Arm yourself with The Word. Know the Truth. And the next time an atheist fixes you with a cheesy grin and asserts that the universe and everything in it was once squeezed into something the size of a pinhead, you can look at them and say, “That’s nice.”

But Hitler was a Christian

I was watching a YouTube clip on the World War II recently and I was surprised when I read the comments that some – admittedly a minority – claimed that Adolf Hitler was a Christian. The reasoning for this was that Hitler had attended church.

Now this much is true. As a youth Hitler did indeed attend church. It would seem he didn’t receive the message however. He was said to be intoxicated with the pomp and ceremony and splendour of the Mass.

This is a superb example of how church attendance does not make one a Christian. I explained this to the commentor and was promptly shot down with, Aren’t all the big wars religiously motivated? – And what about the crusades?

It is interesting that when people attack Christianity they often start with the crusades. This is much the same as attacking the Human Resources policies of a major corporation with an argument from the 1850s coal mines. As for the 2nd part of the argument:

I did a rough estimate of the number of deaths in wars that were religiously motivated. It’s not possible to get an accurate count but even if I’m wrong by an astronomical margin, as you will soon see, it doesn’t matter.

In the last 100 years – atheists will never agree to it – the vast majority of conflicts have not been religiously motivated. However, even giving the atheist the benefit of those borderline cases like the Arab/Israeli wars (an argument could easily be established for political, religious, territorial motives), the ball lies fairly and squarely in the religious corner for the purpose of this exercise.

Deaths due to religiously motivated wars in the past 100 years amount to about 5 million. That’s a lot of dead people but because of the propaganda machine of the secularists a lot of people would be expecting that figure to be a lot bigger.

Fair enough. For the purpose of this demonstration I’ll double it. Call it 10 million. (Take a few minutes to do the arithmetic yourself. You may be surprised).

Now, let’s look at the 2nd world war. Estimates are between 60 and 80 million killed in this terrible conflict.

But Hitler was a Christian, wasn’t he? No, he was not. You will not get any religious leader, or layperson for that matter, to agree with you.

There are certain criteria that need to be fulfilled in order for a person to become a Christian. Sitting in a church isn’t one of them. It is perfectly possible to be a dedicated Christian by every meaning of the word and not attend church. There are many reasons why a Christian might be absent from church for extended periods, or even permanently.

You can sit in the henhouse all day but it doesn’t make you a chicken.

Jesus commanded us to love one another. This quality could hardly be attributed to Hitler. We know of his crimes; there is no need to list them.

Joseph Stalin, another major player in WWII was a communist. A communist is by the very nature of the ideology, an atheist. A person living under the boot of communism has to believe, or come to believe (it is drummed into them), that their rights, necessities, and their comforts, if any, come from the State.

A loving, benevolent God undermines the authority of the State. Jesus and communism don’t mix because it is to Christ whom we owe for not only our salvation, but our next meal, our very next breath.

The aggressive manner in which communist authorities attack Christians is well documented. There are literally thousands of links to studies on this topic. The research is quite easy.

Let me be really clear about this: It is Grace by faith in The Lord Jesus Christ by which we are saved.
There is no other path to salvation. Period. Believing in the powers of the state to provide, attending church, kneeling to face Mecca, chanting, singing, praying, tongues, none of these. The pope cannot save. You can give all your money to charity, live in a cardboard box reading the Bible all day and still go to hell.

Jesus Christ and nothing else. There is no other way.

Now, let’s take another look at Hitler, shall we? I think by now that most people would agree the Adolf doesn’t fit, does he? At one point he was held as a messiah by the German people. This is because prior to Hitler a lot of Germans were doing it very hard. Under his leadership things got better.
But God doesn’t judge us according to man’s standards. He sees what is in the heart, and there can be no doubt that Hitler’s heart was very dark.

In his youth Hitler had attended church services and had even sang in the choir.

As an adult he was a war monger who started World War Two and set about the genocide of the Jews in Every country he conquered. He also murdered homosexuals, gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the disabled, the intellectually handicapped, political opponents and a host of other folk who didn’t fit into his perception of the new Germany.

There is considerably more evidence of Hitler’s forays into the occult than that of his Christian life.

No, once and for all, Adolf Hitler was not a Christian.

And What About the Religion of Peace

Here is something they don’t tell you; in response to the rise in Islamic terrorist activity around the globe, 911, Spain, Bali, London and so on, the rank and file Muslims have pretty much convinced the world that these are the activities of extremists. The true Muslim is peaceful, loving.

Okay, that’s the bit they do say. And there is some truth in the first part. That the terrorism had been the work of extremists. But the rest?

Lies. Lies. Lies.

The difference between the Islamic extremist and the Moderate is that the former is prepared to act on his hatred, whilst the latter is not. This is a definition much closer to the truth.

A new oxymoron for the 21st century: Moderate Muslim.

If you could convince a Muslim to be completely honest (difficult because their religion allows them to lie if it is for the greater good of Islam), they would tell you that they hate Westerners. They despise our culture, our morals and of course, our religion. Given the opportunity to act without consequences, they would kill us all.

Here’s a few quotes from the Koran.

Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. – Sura 2:98

On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. – Sura 2:161

Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. – 2:191

Muslims are harsh against the unbelievers, merciful to one another. – 48:25

Muhammad is Allah’s apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another. Through them, Allah seeks to enrage the unbelievers. – 48:29

Prophet! Make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal sternly with them. Hell shall be their home, evil their fate. – 66:9

This is not a complete list by any means. The Koran is seething with hatred and violence.

Islamic apologists have been very active in promoting Islam as a peaceful, tolerant religion. They even tell us that the name, ‘Islam’ means peace. Any scholar would tell you it means surrender or submission. Both words have very different meanings to the word, Peace.
The Koran calls Believers to submit to Allah and to subdue non believers until they also, believe and submit.

Muslims will tell you that they believe in Jesus. True. But what about Him do they believe?

Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet. They do not believe He is the Son of God.

Understand. No matter how convincing the apologist, regardless of what your President believes, this is an evil religion with violence and hatred at its core.

Just what does Mr Obama think of Islam? He is quoted as saying, “Islam has a proud tradition if tolerance.” Yeah, that’s a goody. How about, “Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism, it is an important part of promoting peace.”

Lee Rigby, the British soldier who was hacked to death on a London street was one of the more publicised incidents of this peaceful religion. As they butchered him his attackers ranted, “We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you”.

In the wake of this cowardly attack British prime minister David Cameron was quoted as saying that there was nothing in the Koran that justified this murder.

Nothing? Something else the attackers ranted whilst they waited for the police (and the cameras) was, “The Koran commands us to kill those who kill Muslims.”
Lee Rigby had served in Afghanistan. He was fighting in a war. Lee Rigby was a hero who put his life on the line for the freedom of others. His slayers were not even soldiers.

In my opinion they should receive the same penalty as any foreign agent operating behind our lines. Yes, their British citizenship is clearly just a cover.
These men should be summarily executed.

Instead, David Cameron waffles on about how exceptional this behaviour is, coming as it does from the Religion of Peace.

Get the picture.

Okay, what is the answer?

Prayer. Then more prayer. Things are changing: many Muslims are giving their lives to Jesus. Jesus is appearing in the dreams of these people, calling them to salvation. And many are heeding the call.

That’s the good news.

The bad news us that there will be a lot of pain ahead.

Whilst our leaders are supporting the Islamic agenda the road can only be tough. I believe that Mr Obama should be charged with treason for his open support of Islam. During WWII if an American leader had openly supported Hitler or Hirohito that would have been the result. Today, in the wake of horrific terrorism, Obama can get away with words of support for these people. It is upside-down.

Which brings us back to prayer. This is the arena in which we will win: the spiritual arena. When Christians pray we pray to a real God, the Creator of the universe and everything in it.
Muslims do not. Their’s are empty words falling on deaf ears. At the Head of their church there is nothing. Perhaps this may explain why, despite the wealth of some Islamic nations they still live in sixth century doldrums.

Random Ramblings on Atheism

When I comment on a Utube clip and express my Christian faith I invariably come under attack from the atheist brigade. Just why these people seem intent on slathering abuse upon me mystifies me. I’m not an influential celebrity, and I’m not dragging hordes from the streets, depriving them of their liberty, to listen to my rhetoric. I’m just an ordinary man who believes in One Extraordinary.

Yet the abuse is that of the type you’d expect would fall upon pedophiles.

Why? Why the sentiments that fuel the attacks, and why the passion of their delivery?

I have a small understanding of the objections if I were witnessing on a secular site, but what about when the topic is Christian? And this raises a third question: why are atheists viewing and reading Christian material?

I have no objection to atheists visiting Christian sites. To the contrary; the more the better. Perhaps some will be saved by doing so.

Assuming then that the atheist is not viewing the video, reading the post, simply to cause trouble – and trust me, there are a lot that do – then why the interest? I don’t feel the need to visit atheist Web sites or Utube channels.

The only conclusion I can arrive at is that some people just like to know what’s over the fence.

Like the old tale of the elderly lady who calls the police because from her kitchen window she can see her neighbour sun-baking nude.

“I can’t see anyone nude,” the policeman told her as he peered through the window. “In fact I can barely see into his garden.”
“Silly policeman,” the old woman replied, “You have to stand on a chair and use these binoculars!”

Such is the atheist who watches a Christian video, reads a Christian blog or sermon, and can’t restrain himself.

Here’s a tip: watch something else if you are so offended! Isn’t that what you tell Christians when we protest about the sex and foul language on TV?

“Hey, Buddy. Censorship starts at home,” they say.

Well, swallow some of your own medicine. I’d love to see atheists watching Christian media. But not if the motive is a vendetta. In that case, “Beat it. Scram!”

Then we come to the atheist web site. Now, the term, Atheist Web Site, makes one think of a site whose primary message is the spread of glorious atheism, the wonderful feeling that when the wind is in your face and the wolf has torn down the front door, is snapping his chops, that you needn’t bother with prayer . . . that you’re on your own. . . .

Thank goodness I don’t have to pray at a time like this. Phew!

Atheism marketing itself. That’s what comes to mind when confronted with an atheist link, a UTube clip, podcast.

But no. Don’t be fooled. Their tenet is not Pro Atheism, but Anti Christianity.

I have yet to find an atheist site that holds the Hindus up to account. The Buddhists don’t get a mention. Nor do The Sikhs, Lamahists, Krishnas. For that matter I was pushed to find even a single reference to The-Religion-of-Peace. Nothing: despite the fact that they flew planes into the World Trade Center, killed 202 in the Kuta nightclub bombings in Bali, 2002, and on and on and on.

These people kill their daughters for honour. They mutilate the girl’s genitals by barbaric female circumcision, and for their entire lives Islamic women are treated as 2nd class. They will be denied equality on every front. A Muslim man treats his camel with greater dignity.
Not a mention of these good folk in the vast majority of atheist postings.

One of the more prominent sites, The Thinking Atheist, a contradiction in terms if there ever was one, is exclusively devoted to anti-Christianity. The owner of the site explains this by saying that Christianity is his or her background. Fair enough. But to only publish that which is within the writer’s personal experience can lead to a biased account of the truth.

Research is a dirty word to those seeking to discredit Christianity.

To say that there is no God is the height of ignorance. The atheist will say the same thing of Christians at this suggestion. The claim that to declare the existence of God is not only ignorant, but gullible.

There is a difference between the Christian claim for and the atheist claim against: the Christian can back up their assertion with changed lives, despair giving way to hope, with 1000s who had stood at the precipice and had come back – and the atheist can not.

(There is not room in 100 blog posts for a full exploration of the evidence for Christianity but it’s readily available for those prepared to look.)

That’s lives affected. Now the truly cynical might argue that this is subjective; lives healed, destructive habits cured – a man with an horrific drug addiction that had cost him his work, home and family, set free, and gone with the addiction the associated behaviours: lying, thieving etc (I’m writing of myself now) – this could be a unique perception. Despite the 1000s of similar stories to the contrary.

But Christianity is also supported by a profusion of objective evidence. There are at present over 5700 pages, or part pages, and over 2000 containing all or portions of the Gospels.

In 1946 in a system of caves not far from the Dead Sea were discovered what’s now widely known as The Dead Sea Scrolls. Among the 850 or so scrolls are now identified 19 copies of the Book of Isaiah, 25 copies of Deuteronomy and 30 copies of the Psalms.

Perhaps the most important aspect of this find was the proof of the accuracy of contemporary texts. The atheist can no longer argue that the Bible has been radically altered. The Dead Sea Scrolls proved the modern books to be 99% accurate. Segments have been found from over 500 manuscripts.

If scholars reject the accuracy of Biblical documents they must also reject that of Plato;7 copies, Homer; 643 copies for example. Documents supporting the New Testament number over 24,000.

This is by no means exhaustive. In fact I’ve only scratched the surface of Biblical evidence for the Holy Scriptures.

Then there’s the non Biblical evidence supporting Jesus and New Testament accounts. This list is quite understandably, not as voluminous, but it’s within an easy internet search.

Some people, however, will refuse to be convinced. They just will not believe. Then there are those who refuse to allow us the freedom to believe.

If you, like myself, live a pretty ordinary life in the west, you greatest opposition, discounting disgruntled family and friends, isn’t going to come from Islam, the Mormons or JWs, but from atheists. This is by far the most militant group the average citizen is likely to encounter.

I heard a great quote on the other day. It really made me smile.

Why would someone invest so much energy in fighting something they don’t even believe in?

That just about sums up all I’ve been trying to say for the last 1000 words or so. You don’t see the adults at Christmastime lining the malls chanting, “Santa is fake! Your gifts come from your parents!”

People just don’t usually put much effort into something they don’t believe in. Some may argue that Christianity damaged them and they want the world to know it. Fair enough. But once again, these folk just haven’t done their research.

Genuine Christianity, in belief and in practise, will never hurt anyone.

Jesus is the God of love. Love never harms. For the atheist who won’t consider that statement, who shuts off at the mere mention of His name, consider this.

The practise of the real spiritual principles found in genuine Christianity is never detrimental to a person’s physical, mental, or emotional health. It is simply not possible.

Just this morning I joined a Google discussion on the Evolution/Creation debate. I decided not to aggressively defend Christianity, which is my normal position, but to ask some fairly gentle, innocent questions of the evolutionists. Such as: Could you give me an example of evolution? How can we reliably know what happened 20 billion years ago? Assuming such a time existed.

Needless to say I was met with hostility and mockery. I don’t understand evolution I was told. I am a blind fool who has been led by the nose.

Okay. I’m an idiot. Enlighten me. If there is a clear example of evolution that cannot be contested, show me. I will keep an open mind.

No comers so far. Ironically the very folk who accuse the Christians of closed mindedness shut themselves off to the possibility of something other than their charter.

I’ll leave this post on that note. I am open to the possibility that I don’t have all the answers. I will listen to an evolutionist who wants to prove his case. I will hear them out if they don’t shout me down.

I wonder if they will do the same . . . . 🙂

But Christians Say Their’s is the Only Way…

And so do the Muslims, the Buddhists, the Hindus, Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses ad infinitum. In fact just about all the major religions make the same claim. About the only ones who don’t are the Baha’i faith. Their’s is a message that there is no such thing as an only way and that they are the only way with this message.

Islam is so convinced that they are the only way that they will kill you to prove the point.

Closer to home, Catholics so believe that theirs is the only way that some churches won’t even marry a couple unless both parties are Catholic.
(For more on why I did not include Catholics with Christianity watch this space).

Jehovah’s Witnesses are likewise convinced that they have the only card. Ditto the Mormons and Seventh Day Adventists.

Getting the idea? This is an identical concept right across the religious board.

So why are Christians singled out and given a shellacking for making this common claim? The only explanation is that we present a threat; because we present the truth.

Hold on, isn’t that the statement that got us here in the first place? Yes it is, but with all the objectivity I can muster I can’t see any other reason to shoot us down whilst letting the other religions slide.

Except that we have the truth. They will shoot us down for that.

And here I go, stating the truth, as truth, again.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Light. He is the Son of God and was crucified to pay for man’s sins. After being dead three days God rose Him back to life.

Taking Our Lord’s Name in Vain.

My first post, my first peeve. This is an appeal to all screenwriters, authors, novelists, basically anyone who puts a creative pen to paper.

Writers influence culture. Perhaps more than any other profession. Actors say what writers write. People buy what copywriters tell them to. Laws are written by writers who have learned to write in that style. People do what writers tell them to do.

So next time, in your sitcom, play, short story, or perhaps that spellbinding yarn with which you regale your friends, take this dare… If you…dare.

Next time your central character whacks his thumb with a hammer instead of taking our Lord’s name in vain, have him call out, Allah! Or Muhammad.

Eyebrows will be raised.

For too long Christians have kept quiet amid this culture of throwing our Lord’s name about as an appropriate response to pain, frustration, anger. It’s time we said, no! It is not appropriate. It is never appropriate. Fellow Christian, you know it isn’t. Your skin crawls when you are watching TV and you hear some clown use it. Of all the expletives that litter our media this is the worst. This is the Living God and we are keeping silent while others treat His Name like garbage.

Wouldn’t it be far simpler to use the name of a false god?

Won’t this upset the Muslims? Yep, you bet. There will be no end to the foot-stomping, screaming, hair-tearing, perhaps even a murderous fatwa from the religion of peace.

The poor darlings. They will be feeling the way Christians have been feeling for years. The media, and our media riddled culture is full of offensive traps for the unwary Christian. I’m not a prude but I did all that in my life before Jesus. I’m trying to live differently now; in the Way Everlasting.

It will also upset our politicians. Imagine the umming and erring that will go on as they, buckling under pressure from the Muslims, try to tell us to stop offending their god. Or rather, their concept of God.

We don’t have to single out Islam although they would surely be the loudest and most interesting to watch. To be honest I doubt that the Muslims are even particularly noteworthy offenders. It’s the secular culture that needs to be set right. Secular writers influence society far more than any religious writers. And besides, there are plenty of false gods to go around.

We could say, “I krishnaed the car last night. Total wreck. Moonied my arm up pretty good.”

Or,”What the Buddha!”

Obviously this is going to ridiculous extremes. It’s never going to happen and if it did, these names can’t create the offence that taking our Lord’s Name in vain can. The principle is simple; we aren’t commanded to keep the names of man-made gods holy. Only the Lord’s name. This is the very reason it is so offensive, and regrettably, why so many do it, to take our Lord’s name in vain; He is God.

It also happens because we don’t protest much. This is something the Muslims can teach us, although perhaps we don’t have to do it quite as well. When something offends the Muslim’s religious sensibilities he protests. Loudly.

Are Christians not sufficiently passionate about our religion to protest? On the surface it seems that way. We tend to protest passively. If we don’t like a product we simply don’t buy or watch it. Unfortunately all this does is produce a minuscule drop in sales or ratings. So minuscule in fact that the producer can just ignore us. They don’t ignore the Muslims however.

Muslims are noisy. They make sure their grievances get noticed.

Perhaps we should take a lesson from them. Or, we could let their noise work for us.

If we were to start using their god’s name as a curse, the ensuing murderous rage by the religion of peace would raise public awareness of the distress caused by cursing with our Lord’s Name.

This is back door advertising at its worst, but it would work. A far better idea would be for us to make our grievances known and then adopt the passion these people have for their faith.

This is really offensive language and Christians are silent about it. I have never read a ‘Letter to the Editor’ about it. I’m guilty too. I have never called a TV or radio station to complain. I, until now, have done nothing, said nothing. But I will try to rectify this.

If you have any ideas about how we could change this culture, or change ourselves to change the culture, please leave a comment.
